The Call to Unity: Building and Nurturing the Body of Christ

In the Christian faith, unity is a foundational principle that is highlighted throughout the New Testament. Building and nurturing the Body of Christ begins with an understanding of the purpose of unity within the church. This means building relationships based on mutual respect and understanding and seeking to resolve conflicts in a manner that reflects the teachings of Jesus. The apostle Paul writes, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone” (Romans 12:18).

Ultimately, the call to unity within the Body of Christ is a call to embody the love of Christ and to be a witness to the world. Jesus prayed for unity among believers in John 17:21, “that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” By building and nurturing the Body of Christ through unity, the church can effectively fulfill its mission and reflect the love and grace of God to a broken and divided world.
